This has resulted in the increase of projects requiring Environment Impact Assessment(EIA), among other coastal environment related projects. This study, thereby, provides effective mitigation measures for environmental impacts of marine reclamations, mainly in the coastal zones near ports and harbors. According to the EIA, development planning has been lacking harmony with the environmental elements of the coastal zone. Such discord can be directed toward the fact that mitigation measures, based on scientific and comprehensive EIA have not yet been established. Analyzing environmental problems in a site selection, project planning, construction, and operation, this study outlines effective mitigation measures for environmental impacts of reclamation at each stage. With full intentions of connecting the environment with reclamation projects(port and harbor developments with the nature and ecology of the coast); this study hopes to maintain the beauty, safety and vigor of the coastal area. Directions for the mitigation of environmental impacts of current marine reclamation projects are listed in the following: 1. Project planning should be linked with environmental and coastal zone management. 2. The planning stages should consider issues related to the establishment of artificial tidal flats, options for coastal erosion prevention, seawater pollution, and seawall model system with a habitat for marine biota. 3. The Construction stages should be accompanied by an analysis of suspended solids e.g.)providing an installation guideline for silt protectors considering the marine environment and construction types. 4. The operation stages should be frequently consulted with results obtained during monitoring sessions.
