패널공간더빈모형을 통한 환경오염과 한국 지역소득간의 비선형관계분석

Abstract

본 연구는 공간의존성(spatial dependence)을 고려하는 패널공간계량모형을 이용하여 1988년부터 2014년까지 한국의 16개시도 간 대기오염배출량(일산화탄소, 이산화질소, 아황산가스)과 한국 지역소득간의 비선형관계를 분석하였다. 공간 및 시간고정효과를 동시에 고려한 모형의 검정결과에서 한국지역 배출량 간에 공간의존성이 존재하는 것으로 나타났고 패널공간더빈모형(SDM)이 우수한 분석모형으로 판명되었다. 특정지역의 오염배출로 인한 주변지역들의 피드백효과(feedback effect)와 인접지역 자체의 오염배출로 오는 파급효과(spillover effect)까지 모두를 반영하는 총 효과분석에서 일인당 변수의 일산화탄소, 이산화질소, 아황산가스 모두에 대해 환경쿠즈네츠가설(EKC)이 기각되었다. 즉 경제가 발전할수록 오염수준이 다시 증가하는 N자 형태를 보여주었다. 또한 오염배출량의 확률커널분석에서 일산화탄소나 이산화질소의 경우 시간이 지날수록 지역 간 배출격차가 유지되거나 확대되고 양봉(兩峯)의 형태 중 배출이 증가하는 쪽으로 몰리고 있음을 확인하였다. This paper examines the nonlinear relationship between environmental pollution and regional Incomes in Korea during the period 1988-2014. We allow for spatial dependence in emissions across 16 regions to consider the possibility that a region’s emissions are affected by those in neighboring regions. We use the panel spatial Durbin model with both individual and time-period fixed effects, and use three different per capita emission samples: carbon monoxide(CO), oxides of nitrogen(NO2), and sulfur dioxide(SO2). We find that air pollution is significantly influenced by the emissions of neighboring regions. From the total effect, including feedback and spillover effects, there is strong evidence for the N-shaped relationship between per capita emissions and regional incomes. From stochastic kernel analysis, the per capita CO and NO2 gap indicate a tendency toward divergence in regions over the entire period.
